Cycle One Available
Thanks to the diligent hard work by Steve Farmer (Xi 66) we have an incredible document available to brothers. This first cycle covers founding Spring 55 through Spring 71. It is a comprehensive 270 page document, professional quality with terrific content. The stories, pictures, including the infamous ‘borrowed’ float the won Homecoming for Best Brotherhood is there. I thought I knew local history, how mistaken I was.
It is a large wonderful document to download and view. Thanks again Brother Farmer for all your Love and Respect!

Meet The Magnificent Seven Murray State ATO Founders…
It is hard to define brotherhood to someone who has never experienced it. These guys had it. They were not angels or lofty dreamers…they just liked each other.
Bobby Hargis
24 years old, from Murray. Owned a ’53 Cadillac. Oldest in the group, Korean War veteran, out of the military less than 8 months. Second semester freshman. Fun-loving daredevil people migrated around. Tall, high school basketball jock. Cocky. Enjoyed teamwork.
Billy Joe Milner
24 years old, from Clinton. Also a Korean War veteran, recently celebrated one-year anniversary of his discharge. Second semester freshman. Lady’s man but devoted. A jovial sort of guy with a serious side. Practical thinker with a business head on his shoulders.
Billy Bob Kaler
21 years old, a second semester freshman, also from Clinton. Never met a stranger and had a quick wit about him. Take charge kind of guy. Worked for the state for two years as a surveyor. Dedicated himself to long-term brotherhood when he helped found this group.
Harold Garrison
21 years old, a sophomore, from Hickman. Natural born comedian and kept them all in stitches; had a contagious giggle. Spirited, mischievous but a loveable provocateur. Never backed down from a dare or a fight. Loyal friend. Popularly known as Pres.
Jimmy Ashley
21 years old, from Union City. Already a junior at Murray in 1955, a veteran in another sense. Quieter than the others but affable, well-liked, and loyal to a fault. Good-natured and even-tempered until pushed. Hard-worker type who loved to relax with good friends.
Jimmy Hogan
20 years old, from Fulton, a sophomore. Graduated from Sewanee Military in ’53. Was on UK’s varsity swim team the previous year. Self-confident with a personality everyone liked. Decisive, strong-willed, bright, competitive, assertive, unpretentious, dedicated to friends.
Sammy Ronk
19 years old, from Alamo, a freshman. Youngest Founder, 5 years younger than Bobby Hargis but they hit it off. Low-key but charismatic. Natural-born leader with the gift of gab in a pinch. Never made promises he couldn’t keep. Congenial and smart. Led the fraternity through extraordinary growth period…then saw it suddenly taken away.
These seven guys were in for the ride of their lives that night, literally and figuratively.
