How the Scholarship Endowment Started
At the meeting of the ATO Housing Corporation held at Homecoming 2009 Brother Alan Stout first suggested the need for Zeta Lambda to establish a Scholarship Fund for the benefit of ATO Actives at Murray State. Thereafter, he researched this to determine the best and most efficient means to establish, promote, maintain and administer such a scholarship. Then, at the Housing Corp. Meeting held October 9, 2010 the Housing Corporation unanimously passed the motion to establish the scholarship to be administered by the MSU Foundation. The Foundation is currently administering scholarships for other fraternities and sororities on campus. There are many reasons to create and maintain a Scholarship Endowment:
- Rush: Most of the other major fraternities have established similar scholarships and have made it a key component of Rush
- Graduate Support: Student debt is a growing and serious challenge, this allows our Brothers to begin their career in better financial shape
- Academic Image: Reinforces to the University, Students, Parents our emphasis on Academics
- MSU Support: Can earmark your Murray State contributions to ATO Members. The MSU Foundation will promote this.
- IT IS ABSOLUTELY THE RIGHT THING TO DO!
As of the end of the special called meeting on November 23, 2010, a total of $30,000 had been raised. Special thanks should be given to Alan Stout, Dwain Taylor and Robbie Rudolph for their generous donations of $10,000 each. As many of you are aware Murray State is currently engaged in a capital campaign which is named “Hold Thy Banner High”. This allows those of us who were contemplating supporting the capital campaign of the University to do so and restrict the support to OUR scholarship fund. The Foundation has committed resources to help promote our scholarship endowment. Literally it is a “win-win”.
