A lifetime of Defining Moments… Brother Steve Powless (Alpha Epsilon) is highlighted in this month’s Paducah Life Magazine.
When Steve Powless, Executive Chairman of CSI, speaks to up-and-coming young professionals, he often speaks to the defining moments in his life and how those often unexpected and seemingly unimportant experiences can change the trajectory of a career or a personal history. Steve explains that each defining moment for individuals is like threads that speak to the fabric of every person’s character.
Steve points to his journey of servant leadership learned at the hands of CSI’s patriarch, John Williams, Sr. “When I joined CSI in 1987, John Williams was one of the busiest men I knew in Paducah, “Steve explains. “And yet I observed that he was ALWAYS ready to lend a hand, secure resources, or otherwise provide leadership to charitable causes in the community.” John Williams encouraged Steve to adopt a similar mindset. “He often said to me, ‘we’re renting time here on earth.’ I took that to mean we have but a small window in which to pay our dues.”
This philosophy has provided Steve with aspects of corporate leadership that are still a part of his career to this day. Steve has come to realize that the servant’s towel is an accouterment that is critical to his role as a corporate manager as well as that of every unique member of the CSI team. “After watching John Williams create a company built on benevolence and volunteerism, it became apparent that these were fundamental principles of nurturing a company and the people who are its lifeblood.”Learn more about the unique experiences and storied life of Steve Powless in the current edition of PADUCAH LIFE Magazine.
